It’s the fear of any car owner that their car will slowly rust over time, affecting the appearance of their beloved asset or even its performance. The automobile chemical company Sika aims to avoid that with its Sika-Gard brand, an effective but affordable range of protective coating solutions for the body of your car. But which products are available as part of the Sika-Gard range? Below we look at the three different types of Sika-Gard products which can defend your car against unwanted rust and salt corrosion.
The Sika-Gard–6060 and its smaller 500ml aerosol partner the Sika-Gard -6060 S provide a handy tear-resistant protective film on non-visible areas of cars that do not need to be painted over such as the underbody. They are corrosion-resistant and help reduce vibration and dampen sound, serving perfectly well in extreme temperatures as low as -25° C or as high as 80° C.
Both application methods are clean, fast, and simple to apply, while they have the advantage of a low VOC content meaning that they do not attack paint or PVC coatings. All in all, they are great for protecting your new vehicle from rust or restoring corrosion protection after a collision.
Stone chip protection coating
It’s a terrible nightmare when your car drives along a rocky road and gets chipped by pieces of stone. Thankfully Sika-Gard has two products for this: the -6440 Grey and -6770 Black, also available in aerosols.
With a chemical base of rubber the -6440 and -6770 offer a protective coating for vulnerable, painted areas of your car such as door sills, wheel arches and the front and rear aprons. These products are available in black and grey colours but are easy and fast to paint over if necessary – the -6470 S dries quickly and can be painted over wet on wet spraying in a mere 20 minutes, ensuring reduced downtime.
Sometimes a car can develop rust within seams and crevices, meaning that a protective film isn’t sufficient. Sika-Gard’s high penetration cavity waxes -6220 and -6220S are designed to protect concealed areas in doors, bonnets, trunks and car wings with their high creep capability, penetrating seams and crevices with ease and offering perfect protection even in extreme areas.
To protect your engine and engine bay area, a more durable wax is required. For this reason Sika-Gard also offer two other waxes, the -6250 and -6250 S, which are designed to operate under extreme conditions, making them more flexible when under stress. The -6250 can resist temperatures up to a scorching 180° C: when it comes to conserving your engine, bonnet seams and heat shields, this wax can stand the heat.
Sika offer a professional quality products to apply Sika-Gard. Sika’s UBC Plus gun, which can handle all three types of product simply by replacing the spray nozzle with an attached 900mm hose.
As you can see, Sika-Gard products offer excellent protection for your car. Handily, here at Rustbuster we have all these products in stock.
